Cornflower is named such because of its growth in corn fields. Historically, in agriculture, cornflower is considered an omen of fortune. It is also called Bachelor’s Button. As lore has it, bachelors and possibly bachelorettes wore cornflowers upon their breast to signify their status and eligibility for marriage. This beautiful essence represents potency and virility. Corn Cockle grows along fields and roadsides. Machine farming has eliminated much of the wild corn cockle, being that it is poisonous, it wasn’t well suited for the grain fields. Yet there it was. As long as the harvest of grains was completed before the seeds were mature, the grains would be safe from the toxicity in Corn Cockle. Modern farming has made life challenging for Corn Cockle.
