It is a warming oil and is used to promote circulation in the feet through massage. It has also been used to stimulate the breath when massaged over the lungs. The oil is said to have been used by witches and warlocks in love potions. Lore has it that mullein is thought to be a protective herb planted by monasteries to banish the devil. Its long flowering stems were dipped in tallow in ancient times and used as torches in outdoor ceremonies. It is the herb associated with Saturn.
